Regular Meeting

The Board of Education of USD #331 met on April 9, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. for a regular meeting at the Board of Education Office.

Welcome Guests/Patron Communications

Acting president Jon Wollen called the meeting to order and welcomed the guests.

Approval of Agenda

The agenda was approved as presented.

Consent Agenda

·        Approval of the minutes of the March 12, 2007 regular meeting

·        Approval of the clerk’s/treasurer’s reports

·        Approval of the warrants in the amount of $452,905.79

·        Approval of the Monthly Budget Report

Educational Program Updates

Max Clark, Kingman Elementary School Principal, presented information on the preliminary state assessment scores.

Update on SCK-SEC Items

Jon Wollen, SCK-SEC representative, presented information concerning the Special Education Cooperative.

Sunshine Enterprise Presentation

David Hill presented information on Sunshine Enterprise.

Consideration of Approval for School Improvement Plans

No action was taken on this item.

Consideration of Proposed Additions or Changes to the Bus Information Handbook

The board approved the Bus Information Handbook as presented.

Consideration of Proposed Additions or Changes to Student Handbooks

Discussion was held on the changes to the student handbooks for Kingman Elementary School, Kingman High School, and Norwich School as presented by the principals.  No action was taken on this item and it will be added to the May agenda.

Consideration of Resolution for Destruction of Records

The board approved Resolution 18 Destruction of Records which authorizes the clerk of the board to destroy records pursuant to K.S.A. 75-5369 and 72-5370.

Consideration of KASB Membership

The board approved the KASB member dues for the 2007-2008 school year in the amount of $8,854.00 and Legal Assistance Membership for $1,100.00.  These dues will be paid after July 1, 2007.

Consideration of Proclamation for National Teacher Day

The board approved a proclamation for National Teacher Day and proclaimed Tuesday, May 8, 2007 as National Teacher Day. 

Administrative Reports

Leon Albert, assistant superintendent; Melissa Hodson, Lanny Hower, Max Clark, Brent Garrison, Rick Henry, principals; Bill Kelley, assistant principal; and Dennis Albright, technology coordinator, gave written updates to the board.

Executive Session

The board held several executive sessions to discuss matters relating to non-elected personnel and negotiations.

Administrative Report by the Superintendent

Superintendent Don Mason gave a written update to the board.

Consideration of Resignations (Licensed and/or Classified)

The board approved the resignations of Betty Mason as 2nd grade teacher at Kingman Elementary School effective at the end of the school year, Michael Packard as business teacher and coach at Norwich High School effective at the end of the school year, Jalynn Speck as assistant softball coach at Kingman High School effective as of March 16, 2007, Dorothy Cornett as bus driver at Kingman effective at the end of the school year, and Nancy Shepherd as secretary at Kingman High School effective at the end of the school year.

Consideration of Contracts (Licensed and/or Classified)

The board approved a contract for Seth Roe as assistant track coach at Kingman High School for the 2006-2007 school year and Jennifer Sasina as cheerleading sponsor for the 2007-2008 school year.

Schedule Board Members to Attend Building Site Council Meetings

It was agreed that Nancy Boyer will attend the Kingman High School site council meeting on April 18, 2007 at 6:00 p.m., Mike Maloney will attend the Kingman Elementary School site council meeting on April 20, 2007 at 7:15 a.m. and Allen Young will attend the Norwich site council meeting on April 30, 2007 at 5:30 p.m.

Continuation of Board Self-Evaluation Process

The board reviewed the board self-evaluation process.

The next regular meeting will be Monday, May 14, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Board of Education Office.  The meeting was adjourned at 10:35 p.m.
