Regular Meeting
The
Board of Education of USD #331 met on May 14, 2007 at 7:00
p.m. for a regular meeting at the Board of Education Office.
Welcome Guests/Patron Communications
President Allen Young called the meeting to
order and welcomed the guests.
Approval of Agenda
The
agenda was approved as presented.
Consent Agenda

Approval of the minutes of the April 9, 2007 regular meeting

Approval of the clerk’s/treasurer’s reports

Approval of the warrants in the amount of $237,879.98

Approval of the Monthly Budget Report
Educational Program Updates
Emily Boyer and Andrea Voran gave excellent forensics
performances for the board.
Site Council Reports
Jill Albright gave the Kingman High School annual site
council report. Kingman Elementary School and Norwich
School site council reports were presented in written form.
Consideration of Student Fees
The
board approved the student fees for the 2007-2008 school
year which will remain the same as the 2006-2007 school
year.

Meal Prices
The
board approved the student meal prices to be the same as
last year:
K-2 $1.50
3-5 $1.80
6-8 $2.00
9-12 $2.30
Consideration of
Proposed Changes to Student Handbooks
The
board approved the proposed changes to the student handbooks
with two additional changes.

Approval for School Improvement Plans
The
board approved the school improvement plans presented by the
school committees of each building.

2007-2008 Food Service Agreement
The
board approved the 2007-2008 Food Service Agreement.
Consideration of Copy
Fees
The
board set copy fees at .10 per black and white copy and .20
per colored copy. The fee will remain the same whether they
use our paper or bring their own paper.
Consideration of
Building Rental Fees
The
board approved the building rental rates to remain the same
as last year. The MAYB fees will be $350.00 per gym during
the summer tournament and $200.00 per gym during the winter
tournament.
Consideration of Board
Policy JDDA Drug-Free Schools (First Reading)
The board approved as first reading the
following changes to Board Policy JDDA Drug-Free Schools:
In the second paragraph under Student Conduct the last
sentence will be changed to read: “Any student violating
the terms of this policy will be reported to the appropriate
law enforcement officials and will be subject to penalties
as per student handbook.” The penalties will be eliminated
from the policy handbook.
Administrative Reports
Leon Albert, assistant superintendent; Melissa Hodson, Lanny
Hower, Max Clark, Brent Garrison, Rick Henry, principals;
Bill Kelley, assistant principal; and Dennis Albright,
technology coordinator, gave written updates to the board.
Executive Session
The
board held several executive sessions to discuss matters
relating to non-elected personnel and negotiations.
Administrative Report by the Superintendent
Superintendent Don Mason gave a written update to the board.
Consideration of Resignations (Licensed and/or Classified)
The
board approved the resignations of Ashley Weiss as language
arts teacher at Kingman High School and Kingman
Elementary/Middle School, Melissa Hodson as Norwich
Elementary School Principal, Justin Batt as assistant
football coach at Kingman High School, Adam Conard as stucco
sponsor at Kingman Elementary/Middle School, Annie Albright
as assistant volleyball coach at Norwich, Jenni Henson as 6th
grade Battle of the Books sponsor at Norwich, Nancy Hageman
as stuco sponsor at Kingman High School and Ron Work as
forensics and all school play sponsor at Norwich.
Consideration of Contracts (Licensed and/or Classified)
The
board approved a contract for Rebecca Huelskamp as language
arts teacher at Kingman High School and Kingman
Elementary/Middle School, Tyler Dansel as business teacher
at Norwich, Lucas Schroeder as assistant football coach at
Kingman High School, Layne Schroeder as head football coach
at Kingman High School, Deborah Minor as secretary at
Kingman High School, Jenni Henson as assistant volleyball
coach at Norwich, Tara Sprague as stuco sponsor at Kingman
Elementary/Middle School, Dana Smith as 6th grade
Battle of the Books sponsor at Norwich, Dwane DeWeese as a
half-time industrial technology teacher at Kingman High
School, and Glenda Shepherd as forensics and all school play
sponsor at Norwich.

Meetings

Continuation of Board Self-Evaluation Process
The
board reviewed the board self-evaluation process and
discussed the formation of a foundation with the South
Central Kansas Foundation.
