Calculating an Average in Excel

 

  1. Select the cell where you want to place the calculation.

 

 

  1. Click the Paste Function button located in the Standard Toolbar.  You can also go to Insert => Function.

 

 

  1. Out of the Function Category, on the right side of the function window, select All or Statistical.  Out of Function Name, on the left side of the Paste Function Window, select Average.  Click the OK button.

 

 

  1. With the AVERAGE window open, highlite the range of numbers you want to average by clicking and dragging across the appropriate cells.
  2. When the correct cells are selected click the OK button.

 

 

  1. The average will be displayed in the cell you selected.
