Welcome
Welcome to the Norwich High School
Counselor's Home Page. This site exists to
provide resources for educational and career
planning. Please feel free to contact
Mr. Robertson
(lrobertson@knusd331.com) with any
questions or comments.
Are You On Track?
Make sure that you are on track to
graduate by visiting:
NHS Graduation Requirements. If you plan
to attend a Regents University you may also want to
see if you are meeting the
Qualified Admissions standards. Some state
scholarships require that you take specific courses
in high school. You can find this at
Kansas Scholars
Curriculum.
If you hope to one day participate
in Division I or Division II athletics refer to the
NCAA Guidelines.
To help plan your high school career, look over the
NHS Course Descriptions.
Career Outlook
Only
20% of current careers require a four-year college
degree; however, 85% require some education or
training beyond high school. There are very
good jobs with great earning potential waiting for
students completing vocational-technical training.
Check out the programs offered at
Kansas Community College
Programs and
Kansas
Vocational School Programs.

Money For College
The cost of education beyond high
school varies greatly. To get an idea of how
much refer to:
Kansas Four Year Colleges,
Kansas Two Year Colleges
and
Kansas Area Technical Schools.
Don't let the cost intimidate you. There is a
wealth of information online concerning financial
aid, including some very good scholarship searches.
Follow the
Financial Aid link at the top and see for
yourself. Before filling out scholarship
applications you should read
Completing Applications.
NHS Local Scholarships
Seniors: Most
Local Scholarship Applications are available to you
in “Word” format. Simply open the scholarship
form, fill it out on the computer and print.
No need to look for a typewriter or send in a
handwritten application. You will find the
file “NHS Local Scholarships” located in your home
directory on any school computer. If you have
any questions don’t hesitate to see the counselor.
Camps and Workshops
There are many
student camps that provide various learning
experiences and career exploration. Most are
aimed at sophomore and junior students. Find
out what is available at
Camps and Workshops.
Financial Aid Night
A financial aid
night will be conducted in the high school library
during January. Topics covered will include an
overview of the types and sources of financial aid
and instructions on how to fill out the federal
forms.

ACT Testing
Seniors, remember to register and
take the ACT. Code 172-200 for NHS.
Don’t put it off and miss the deadlines. Pick
up a packet in the counselor’s office or register
online at:
ACT. College bound students should take the ACT
for the first time in April or June of their Junior year. Why take it twice? Refer to
Retaking the ACT
for the answer. To learn how to prepare
for the ACT go to
ACT
Prep. Note:
The ACT changed in February 2005. Know what to
expect by visiting:
The New ACT.

PLAN and PSAT
All sophomores
will take the
PLAN test the in October. This test
is a sophomore level ACT and is used for career
planning. Juniors may sign up to take the
PSAT administered locally on Wednesday, October
18. This test is also used for career planning
and is the route to becoming a National Merit
Scholar.
The Military
If you are
interested in serving your country, learning a
skill, and earning money for college you may wish to
visit with a military recruiter. If so, let
the counselor know and he will schedule a meeting.
You might also visit:
Today’s Military.
By law the school is required to
provide military recruiters with a list of names
(with contact information) of all Junior and Senior
students. However, the law also provides that
parents can have their child's name removed from the
list. If parents do not want their child's
information released then they will need to sign the
appropriate form at fall enrollment.
Remember:
All males upon reaching the age 18 must register
with Selective Service. This can now be done
online at:
https://www4.sss.gov/regver/register1.asp
College Visitation
What to do after high school is
perhaps one of the most important decisions you will
make. To help seniors and juniors consider all their
options the district allows them two days to visit
postsecondary schools. You are strongly
encouraged to use them. Before making a visit
you might want to read
College Visitation. Many college
representatives come to NHS to visit with students.
Watch the bulletin board for the schedule and let
the counselor know if you wish to meet with a
representative
Choices
Do you want to
know what a plumber does? How much a
veterinarian makes? Where you can earn an
accounting degree? What career you might be
best suited for? The answers can be found by
using Choices. Choices is an excellent source
of career information and it is available to any NHS
student from any school computer.
Dead Links
The internet is constantly changing.
