USD 331 Parents & Patrons,

Thank you for your patience as we navigate these uncertain times.  We are continuing to work on our back to school plan but wanted to provide you an update.

We announced earlier today that the special board meeting was only going to be informational on our reopening plan for the school district. Information on where the administration and teachers were on planning was presented and it was decided by the board that they wanted to let parents know what date we were going to begin with students.  The consensus was that setting a date would greatly help parents with planning.  With that being said:

Today the USD 331 School Board approved modifying the 2020-2021 school calendar and designating the First Day of School for  Kingman and Norwich Students as Thursday, August 27.  Our plan is that students will be coming to school (Onsite).

We anticipate that the Kansas State High School Activities Association will be making some type of modification to the Fall Sports Calendar.  We expect KSHSAA to announce the first day of fall athletic practices early next week.

The health and safety of your children and our staff is our highest priority.  We are making plans for several different delivery options for your children so that you can select the option that you are most comfortable with.  Again, these plans are still a work in progress but as of now, we are looking to offer three options.

  • ON SITE (In Person) Instruction: Traditional School (following current local health department safety guidelines) in our schools: Kingman Elementary, Kingman Middle, Kingman High, Norwich Elementary, Norwich Middle or Norwich High

  • REMOTE Instruction:  students do class work at home, taught by a Kingman or Norwich teacher

  • VIRTUAL School:  USD 331 Virtual Eagle--students follow a digital curriculum and work from home; Periodic in-person visits, instruction facilitated by USD 331 Virtual Eagle Staff.

  • If you want to maintain eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities, you may do so when enrolled in any of our schools. If you choose to enroll in a virtual school that is not USD 331 Virtual Eagle and then return to our district after the pandemic, your student will be ineligible for extracurricular activities/sports for one year per KSHSAA rules.

We know this is a very brief update, as plans are finalized information will continue to be shared.
