Announcement to USD 331 Kingman-Norwich Students & Parents:
Due to the surge in COVID Cases all school buildings in Kingman & Norwich will be closed to all activities & practices from Sunday, November 22 until Monday, Nov. 30, 2020. School was already scheduled to be on vacation all week. The change is: There will be no practices for any teams this holiday break. Gyms will be closed to practices and no open gym. No basketball, no wrestling (includes armory), no batting cage. We urge all to limit gatherings and practice personal safety and mitigation. Have a safe, quiet & blessed Thanksgiving Holiday.

To parents of Kingman Middle School Boys' and Girls' Basketball teams:
KMS played St. Marks yesterday (Monday 11/9/20) both at home & at St. Marks. Today, Renwick USD announced that St. Marks students will begin remote learning effective Wednesday, 11/11/2020. They have several positive cases of COVID amongst staff.
I communicated with the superintendent of Renwick St. Mark's this evening and she told me that the positive cases she referred to were adults/teachers and none are coaches nor were any at games in Kingman or St. Mark's. That said, the decision made to go remote at St. Marks was not something that would have put our students, coaches, or spectators at extra risk.
As always, it is so very important that all of us wear masks and distance in all settings. That includes school, and around town, etc. We are on a slippery slope right now based on the growing number of positive cases across Kansas and Kingman County. We need your active support of mask wearing to help keep our schools open.
Stay Safe! and #GoEagles
Max Clark, Superintendent of Schools

USD 331 will have school today, Oct. 28 as scheduled. It’s wet out & drivers need to be extra cautious but temp is above freezing. Some bridges are slick. I believe we have a window of opportunity to get kids to school before temp drops temporarily. Drive safely.

Weather forecasters can't seem to make up their minds so we will be up early again evaluating the roads & weather. A decision will be made by approximately 6:00 a.m Wednesday. If you hear nothing = regular schedule; other options would be late start or cancellation. Stay tuned.

Due to the deteriorating conditions with sleet, rain and low temperatures, roads across the district are icy and slick. Sidewalks and parking lots at the schools are also glazed over. For that reason, we will be canceling school for today. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020. Temperatures are not forecast to rise about freezing until mid-afternoon. This is not officially a remote day. Stay safe. See you tomorrow! Go Eagles.

Due to the continuing bad weather in our forecast resuming after midnight, USD 331 is going to have a 2-hour late start tomorrow, Tuesday October 27. If the weather really deteriorates overnight, then we may revise this decision but we will have a late start at the very least least. Basically everything will be 2 hours later. This is a different "Late Start" schedule from what we have had for the last few years. School will start at 10:00 a.m. We will NOT have morning preschool tomorrow. We will Not serve breakfast. We will serve lunch at the regular time. Buses will run 2 hours later than normal. Hopefully by making this decision this evening, that helps parents that need to modify arrangements.

USD 331 schools will be cancelled today, Oct. 26, 2020 due to this morning's snow & forecast of precipitation throughout today & low temperatures leading to dangerous roads. Stay safe. This is NOT a Remote Learning Day.

If you are identified as a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case, contact tracers from KDHE will be contacting you to help prevent further spread of COVID-19 in the community. USD 331 Kingman-Norwich DOES have school tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 14). There has been some confusion due to a previous calendar “floating out there”. We made adjustments to calendar when we delayed start of school. Again- school IS IN SESSION at Kingman and Norwich on Monday. Thanks. #GoEagles

Check our website regularly for updates on planning & preparation for the 2020-21 school year. Be assured, we WILL be having school this year. We will have in-person as well as remote/virtual options. USD 331 has had our own Virtual School for many years. The difference between ours and the ones you see advertised on television is that we don’t market to the entire state. We created our virtual school to fill a need for OUR kids and they are who we focus on. The ones on TV are in it to make money. Your virtual school, USD 331 Virtual Eagle, exists to serve our kids. We do accept students from neighboring districts with special circumstances but we do not market & recruit. If YOU are a 331 parent & are considering a virtual route, we can meet that need. We use the same curricular software platforms as many that you see on advertisements. We provide the computer, we have the teachers. Our difference is- you know our teachers because they live & work in our communities.

Parents of USD 331 students: We emailed you a survey on Wednesday asking you to share your thoughts on returning to school. We value & need your opinions. The survey is also posted to Skyward Family Access. Please complete it one time.

We know everyone is anxious to learn details on what school is "going to look like" next month. Student & Staff SAFETY is #1 priority. Our Goal is to have all kids attending in-person. We will send a survey to parents soon to gather thoughts & concerns. We will share many more details beginning next week & regularly from then on. Thanks for patience, support & confidence. #inthistogether #331EaglePride

USD 331 will run a regular school schedule today (Thursday, Feb 13, 2020). It is very cold with windchills that you should limit being outside and certainly bundle up. Driving your kids to school instead of walking would be a good idea. As always parents- If you are uncomfortable sending your child to school due to the temperatures, you should use your best judgment & keep them home. We will be open today.
**remember- we do not have school Tomorrow- Feb 14 due to parent/teacher conferences and no school Monday, due to Teacher Inservice.
Bundle Up!!

This is a repeat but- Both Kingman High & Norwich High graduation ceremonies are on SATURDAY, May 9, 2020 (not on a Sunday like we’ve done for many years).

Official update on status of school at USD 331 today (Friday, January 17, 2020): We will continue with our plan to follow our Late Start schedule. The temperature is rising with lots of melting. There are isolated slick spots on streets, roads & highways so caution should be exercised. Sidewalks seem to be hazardous. School maintenance crews are at work spreading ice-melt on sidewalks. Parking lots are slick so be aware of that. Thanks to City, County, & State Road Crews for your advance treatment & for putting down sand to help keep us all safe. Parents- as always in weather decisions- if you are uncomfortable with our decision you can choose to keep your student(s) home. Remember we aren’t starting until 9:30 this morning. Also - remember we do not have school on Monday, Jan. 20 due to Inservice. Drive safely.

At this point we see about 1/2” of snow and are looking at running Normal schedule for school. Expecting another 1” or so. We will continue to evaluate roads.
