July 27, 2021 From the Kingman County Health Department: Active COVID 19 cases have jumped from 4 active cases last Wednesday to 16 active cases as of Monday, July 26, evening. 4 of these cases are currently hospitalized. A couple of our active cases have received full vaccination series, but they are not among the hospitalized. Kingman County Health Department has learned of another COVID-related death, bringing the total deaths to 12 in the county. We have also learned of 2 confirmed cases involving the Delta Variant since last report. The COVID-19 scene in Kingman County has changed dramatically from last week and is similar to what we are seeing across Kansas. The people we are seeing most heavily impacted by serious illness, hospitalizations, and variants of concern have not been vaccinated. County Health has been getting more requests for COVID-19 vaccination, and are working to respond to those needs. As of Friday, August 6, KM Co. Health tentatively plans to start offering COVID-19 vaccinations on Fridays in addition to Tuesdays. We have heard concerns about side effects and had requests to get vaccine closer to the weekend; we hope Friday appointments will help ease those worries. We continue to offer all 3 COVID-19 vaccinations available: Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson. Please call Kingman County Health Department at 620-532-2221 to schedule your vaccine. If you aren’t able to get here, please check out https://www.vaccines.gov/search/ to find a COVID-19 vaccine provider near you. This is a great time to update the other vaccines that are needed as well.

From: Kingman County Health Department July 14, 2021 As of 9:15 today, we have 2 active COVID-19 cases. One of these people is currently in the hospital. None of our active cases are vaccinated. If you are wondering how Kingman County is doing on COVID-19 vaccinations, please check out the data on the Kansas COVID-19 vaccination website: https://www.kansasvaccine.gov/158/Data To break it down per 1000 population, we are sitting around 42% for fully vaccinated people among all vaccine eligible people (12 years and older) in the county. For total county population, the percentage of fully vaccinated individuals is around 36%. We do have all 3 COVID-19 vaccines on hand to help improve these vaccination rates-give us a call at 620-532-2221 to schedule an appointment-we can vaccinate anyone 12 years and older. Anyone who has had COVID-19 still needs to be vaccinated, as we are finding vaccination is providing a more robust immune response in comparison to natural infection. Infection rates are trending upward, especially in areas where vaccination rates are low-viruses are going to spread and adapt when allowed to be transmitted more freely. Fully vaccinated people have a much lower risk of serious illness and hospitalization…and quarantine is not required when fully-vaccinated people are identified as close contacts to people testing positive for COVID-19. Fully vaccinated people are also not asked to mask up when in public in most settings. If anything, we encourage everyone to consider vaccination’s benefits. We have come a long way in this pandemic, but the pandemic is not over-there are people still getting seriously ill; let’s continue to look out for each other.

USD 331 Kingman-Norwich Eagle Family, Due to continuing improvement in the COVID Pandemic cases in the county and in the school district, we are planning a modification to our mask-wearing mitigation plan within the school building classrooms. This relaxation will begin on Monday, March 22nd. This is the Monday students return from Spring Break. The major difference in the protocols is that students will be allowed to lower their mask in the classroom IF they are seated, properly distanced and have a partition between them and others (i.e. separated behind plexiglass). Everyone will be required to put their mask back on when they move around in the classroom, are doing group work, and between classes in the halls, and elsewhere. We are not out of the pandemic. But we believe our numbers make it appropriate to move to this protocol. We want to emphasize that we will need to monitor COVID cases closely the two weeks following Spring Break due to the possibility of travel by our students and families during Spring Break. We continue to work with the Kingman County Health Department to clear the major items with them, and want to emphasize how fortunate we are to have great leadership here in Kingman County. The numbers could climb again. Certainly, as a community we are becoming a bit looser and only time will tell if that leads to a surge. So, we must be mentally prepared to return to more restrictive protocols if that becomes warranted. Students will still need to enter buildings with a mask, and masks will be universally required at passing periods and close-contact activities. Then, we will continue to use our local numbers to determine our gating status each week. Key factors considered in determining this change: • Declining Case Numbers in the County and across the state • Many teachers, staff and community members vaccinated • Masks must be worn in all other settings • Masks are only off when seated, alone and distanced in classrooms We appreciate your support.

Announcement to USD 331 Kingman-Norwich Students & Parents: Due to the surge in COVID Cases all school buildings in Kingman & Norwich will be closed to all activities & practices from Sunday, November 22 until Monday, Nov. 30, 2020. School was already scheduled to be on vacation all week. The change is: There will be no practices for any teams this holiday break. Gyms will be closed to practices and no open gym. No basketball, no wrestling (includes armory), no batting cage. We urge all to limit gatherings and practice personal safety and mitigation. Have a safe, quiet & blessed Thanksgiving Holiday.
To parents of Kingman Middle School Boys' and Girls' Basketball teams: KMS played St. Marks yesterday (Monday 11/9/20) both at home & at St. Marks. Today, Renwick USD announced that St. Marks students will begin remote learning effective Wednesday, 11/11/2020. They have several positive cases of COVID amongst staff. I communicated with the superintendent of Renwick St. Mark's this evening and she told me that the positive cases she referred to were adults/teachers and none are coaches nor were any at games in Kingman or St. Mark's. That said, the decision made to go remote at St. Marks was not something that would have put our students, coaches, or spectators at extra risk. As always, it is so very important that all of us wear masks and distance in all settings. That includes school, and around town, etc. We are on a slippery slope right now based on the growing number of positive cases across Kansas and Kingman County. We need your active support of mask wearing to help keep our schools open. Stay Safe! and #GoEagles Max Clark, Superintendent of Schools
USD 331 has posted a COVID Update under "NEWS" on our website. If we are going to keep our students attending On Site & in person, we need the help, support & cooperation if EVERYONE in the county. Click on this link & then look for "NEWS": www.knusd331.com #GoEagles
USD 331 will have school today, Oct. 28 as scheduled. It’s wet out & drivers need to be extra cautious but temp is above freezing. Some bridges are slick. I believe we have a window of opportunity to get kids to school before temp drops temporarily. Drive safely.
Weather forecasters can't seem to make up their minds so we will be up early again evaluating the roads & weather. A decision will be made by approximately 6:00 a.m Wednesday. If you hear nothing = regular schedule; other options would be late start or cancellation. Stay tuned.
Due to the deteriorating conditions with sleet, rain and low temperatures, roads across the district are icy and slick. Sidewalks and parking lots at the schools are also glazed over. For that reason, we will be canceling school for today. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020. Temperatures are not forecast to rise about freezing until mid-afternoon. This is not officially a remote day. Stay safe. See you tomorrow! Go Eagles.
Due to the continuing bad weather in our forecast resuming after midnight, USD 331 is going to have a 2-hour late start tomorrow, Tuesday October 27. If the weather really deteriorates overnight, then we may revise this decision but we will have a late start at the very least least. Basically everything will be 2 hours later. This is a different "Late Start" schedule from what we have had for the last few years. School will start at 10:00 a.m. We will NOT have morning preschool tomorrow. We will Not serve breakfast. We will serve lunch at the regular time. Buses will run 2 hours later than normal. Hopefully by making this decision this evening, that helps parents that need to modify arrangements.
USD 331 schools will be cancelled today, Oct. 26, 2020 due to this morning's snow & forecast of precipitation throughout today & low temperatures leading to dangerous roads. Stay safe. This is NOT a Remote Learning Day.

Kingman Co. Health Department asks that those who attended the football game at Norwich High School Friday evening, September 18 monitor themselves more closely for COVID-19 symptoms until October 2, 2020. If you do note any COVID-19 related symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider. If you are identified as a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case, contact tracers from KDHE will be contacting you to help prevent further spread of COVID-19 in the community. If you get a phone call from one of these individuals, we request your help in helping us keep this virus spreading more than it already has. If you get a call from a 785-area code or from Eudora, Kansas (this is where KDHE contact tracers are headquartered), this may be a KDHE contact tracer. You will most likely get a voicemail if that call is not answered. People are not required to participate in contact tracing, but refusing to participate does NOT excuse you from quarantine for 14 days from last contact. Check our website regularly for updates on planning & preparation for the 2020-21 school year. Be assured, we WILL be having school this year. We will have in-person as well as remote/virtual options. USD 331 has had our own Virtual School for many years. The difference between ours and the ones you see advertised on television is that we don’t market to the entire state. We created our virtual school to fill a need for OUR kids and they are who we focus on. The ones on TV are in it to make money. Your virtual school, USD 331 Virtual Eagle, exists to serve our kids. We do accept students from neighboring districts with special circumstances but we do not market & recruit. If YOU are a 331 parent & are considering a virtual route, we can meet that need. We use the same curricular software platforms as many that you see on advertisements. We provide the computer, we have the teachers. Our difference is- you know our teachers because they live & work in our communities.
Parents of USD 331 students: We emailed you a survey on Wednesday asking you to share your thoughts on returning to school. We value & need your opinions. The survey is also posted to Skyward Family Access. Please complete it one time.
Norwich graduation will also be on 90.3 FM. This is a change.
We know everyone is anxious to learn details on what school is "going to look like" next month. Student & Staff SAFETY is #1 priority. Our Goal is to have all kids attending in-person. USD 331 will run a regular school schedule today (Thursday, Feb 13, 2020). It is very cold with windchills that you should limit being outside and certainly bundle up. Driving your kids to school instead of walking would be a good idea. As always parents- If you are uncomfortable sending your child to school due to the temperatures, you should use your best judgment & keep them home. We will be open today. **remember- we do not have school Tomorrow- Feb 14 due to parent/teacher conferences and no school Monday, due to Teacher Inservice. Bundle Up!!
This is a repeat but- Both Kingman High & Norwich High graduation ceremonies are on SATURDAY, May 9, 2020 (not on a Sunday like we’ve done for many years).
Official update on status of school at USD 331 today (Friday, January 17, 2020): We will continue with our plan to follow our Late Start schedule. The temperature is rising with lots of melting. There are isolated slick spots on streets, roads & highways so caution should be exercised. Sidewalks seem to be hazardous. School maintenance crews are at work spreading ice-melt on sidewalks. Parking lots are slick so be aware of that. Thanks to City, County, & State Road Crews for your advance treatment & for putting down sand to help keep us all safe. Parents- as always in weather decisions- if you are uncomfortable with our decision you can choose to keep your student(s) home. Remember we aren’t starting until 9:30 this morning. Also - remember we do not have school on Monday, Jan. 20 due to Inservice. Drive safely.
At this point we see about 1/2” of snow and are looking at running Normal schedule for school. Expecting another 1” or so. We will continue to evaluate roads.
