July 27, 2021 From the Kingman County Health Department: Active COVID 19 cases have jumped from 4 active cases last Wednesday to 16 active cases as of Monday, July 26, evening. 4 of these cases are currently hospitalized. A couple of our active cases have received full vaccination series, but they are not among the hospitalized. Kingman County Health Department has learned of another COVID-related death, bringing the total deaths to 12 in the county. We have also learned of 2 confirmed cases involving the Delta Variant since last report. The COVID-19 scene in Kingman County has changed dramatically from last week and is similar to what we are seeing across Kansas. The people we are seeing most heavily impacted by serious illness, hospitalizations, and variants of concern have not been vaccinated. County Health has been getting more requests for COVID-19 vaccination, and are working to respond to those needs. As of Friday, August 6, KM Co. Health tentatively plans to start offering COVID-19 vaccinations on Fridays in addition to Tuesdays. We have heard concerns about side effects and had requests to get vaccine closer to the weekend; we hope Friday appointments will help ease those worries. We continue to offer all 3 COVID-19 vaccinations available: Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson. Please call Kingman County Health Department at 620-532-2221 to schedule your vaccine. If you aren’t able to get here, please check out https://www.vaccines.gov/search/ to find a COVID-19 vaccine provider near you. This is a great time to update the other vaccines that are needed as well.

From: Kingman County Health Department July 14, 2021 As of 9:15 today, we have 2 active COVID-19 cases. One of these people is currently in the hospital. None of our active cases are vaccinated. If you are wondering how Kingman County is doing on COVID-19 vaccinations, please check out the data on the Kansas COVID-19 vaccination website: https://www.kansasvaccine.gov/158/Data To break it down per 1000 population, we are sitting around 42% for fully vaccinated people among all vaccine eligible people (12 years and older) in the county. For total county population, the percentage of fully vaccinated individuals is around 36%. We do have all 3 COVID-19 vaccines on hand to help improve these vaccination rates-give us a call at 620-532-2221 to schedule an appointment-we can vaccinate anyone 12 years and older. Anyone who has had COVID-19 still needs to be vaccinated, as we are finding vaccination is providing a more robust immune response in comparison to natural infection. Infection rates are trending upward, especially in areas where vaccination rates are low-viruses are going to spread and adapt when allowed to be transmitted more freely. Fully vaccinated people have a much lower risk of serious illness and hospitalization…and quarantine is not required when fully-vaccinated people are identified as close contacts to people testing positive for COVID-19. Fully vaccinated people are also not asked to mask up when in public in most settings. If anything, we encourage everyone to consider vaccination’s benefits. We have come a long way in this pandemic, but the pandemic is not over-there are people still getting seriously ill; let’s continue to look out for each other.
USD 331 Kingman-Norwich Eagle Family, Due to continuing improvement in the COVID Pandemic cases in the county and in the school district, we are planning a modification to our mask-wearing mitigation plan within the school building classrooms. This relaxation will begin on Monday, March 22nd. This is the Monday students return from Spring Break. The major difference in the protocols is that students will be allowed to lower their mask in the classroom IF they are seated, properly distanced and have a partition between them and others (i.e. separated behind plexiglass). Everyone will be required to put their mask back on when they move around in the classroom, are doing group work, and between classes in the halls, and elsewhere. We are not out of the pandemic. But we believe our numbers make it appropriate to move to this protocol. We want to emphasize that we will need to monitor COVID cases closely the two weeks following Spring Break due to the possibility of travel by our students and families during Spring Break. We continue to work with the Kingman County Health Department to clear the major items with them, and want to emphasize how fortunate we are to have great leadership here in Kingman County. The numbers could climb again. Certainly, as a community we are becoming a bit looser and only time will tell if that leads to a surge. So, we must be mentally prepared to return to more restrictive protocols if that becomes warranted. Students will still need to enter buildings with a mask, and masks will be universally required at passing periods and close-contact activities. Then, we will continue to use our local numbers to determine our gating status each week. Key factors considered in determining this change: • Declining Case Numbers in the County and across the state • Many teachers, staff and community members vaccinated • Masks must be worn in all other settings • Masks are only off when seated, alone and distanced in classrooms We appreciate your support.

USD 331 will have school today, Oct. 28 as scheduled. It’s wet out & drivers need to be extra cautious but temp is above freezing. Some bridges are slick. I believe we have a window of opportunity to get kids to school before temp drops temporarily. Drive safely.
Weather forecasters can't seem to make up their minds so we will be up early again evaluating the roads & weather. A decision will be made by approximately 6:00 a.m Wednesday. If you hear nothing = regular schedule; other options would be late start or cancellation. Stay tuned.
Due to the deteriorating conditions with sleet, rain and low temperatures, roads across the district are icy and slick. Sidewalks and parking lots at the schools are also glazed over. For that reason, we will be canceling school for today. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020. Temperatures are not forecast to rise about freezing until mid-afternoon. This is not officially a remote day. Stay safe. See you tomorrow! Go Eagles.
Due to the continuing bad weather in our forecast resuming after midnight, USD 331 is going to have a 2-hour late start tomorrow, Tuesday October 27. If the weather really deteriorates overnight, then we may revise this decision but we will have a late start at the very least least. Basically everything will be 2 hours later. This is a different "Late Start" schedule from what we have had for the last few years. School will start at 10:00 a.m. We will NOT have morning preschool tomorrow. We will Not serve breakfast. We will serve lunch at the regular time. Buses will run 2 hours later than normal. Hopefully by making this decision this evening, that helps parents that need to modify arrangements.
USD 331 schools will be cancelled today, Oct. 26, 2020 due to this morning's snow & forecast of precipitation throughout today & low temperatures leading to dangerous roads. Stay safe. This is NOT a Remote Learning Day.
