Purpose:
Norwich Schools prioritizes student learning and academic responsibility. This policy establishes a consistent system of identification and support for students who are struggling academically. Academic expectations apply to all students, and participation in school activities (including athletics and extracurriculars) is contingent upon meeting those expectations.
Scope:
This policy applies to all students in grades 6–12, regardless of whether they participate in extracurricular activities.
“No School Activities” includes sports, clubs, field trips, school dances (including Winter Formal & Prom), internships, serving as a teacher’s aide, etc.
Guiding Principles:
• Early identification and intervention for students at risk
• Progressive support with increasing structure if challenges persist
• Academics take priority over extracurricular participation
• Clear, consistent communication with students, families, and staff

Norwich Preschool Families

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, Norwich Schools is implementing a new student cell phone protocol in accordance with Kansas House Bill 2299. Our goal is to continue providing a focused, safe, and effective learning environment for all students.
Beginning this school year, students who bring a cell phone to school will place their device in a secure collection box as they enter the building. Collection boxes will be located at both the East and West entrances for students to use upon arrival.
🔒 Phones will be securely locked and stored throughout the school day. At the 3:30 p.m. dismissal bell, phones will be returned to students’ classrooms for pickup before students leave for the day.
A few important reminders:
✅ Students are not required to bring a phone into the building to place in the collection boxes.
✅ The best option is for students to leave phones at home or securely locked in their vehicles.
✅ Students who do bring phones to school will be expected to follow this procedure each day.
📌 Cell Phone Policy Consequences
K-5th Grade Consequences
1st Offense: Parent/guardian picks up the device.
2nd Offense: 1 Day ISS. Parent/guardian picks up the device.
3rd Offense: 1 Day OSS. Parent/guardian picks up the device.
4th Offense: Mandatory parent meeting with the possibility of further consequences at the administrator’s discretion.
6th-12th Grade Consequences
1st Offense: 1 Day ISS. Parent/guardian picks up the device.
2nd Offense: 2 Days ISS. No school activities for 1 week. Parent/guardian picks up the device.
3rd Offense: 2 Days OSS. No school activities for 30 days. Parent/guardian picks up the device.
4th Offense: OSS until a mandatory parent meeting occurs, with the possibility of further consequences at the administrator’s discretion.
We appreciate our families’ support as we make this transition. These changes are designed to minimize distractions, maximize learning time, and help our students be fully engaged throughout the school day.
Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
