We are pleased to share that the active shooter drill conducted at Norwich Schools on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, was successfully completed. With the support of our local law enforcement and EMS, the drill was carried out in a controlled and age-appropriate manner, ensuring a calm and effective experience for our students and staff.
This exercise was a valuable opportunity to strengthen our preparedness and reinforce our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. We are grateful for the collaboration with our first responders and the professionalism of our staff in guiding students through the process.

While studying early American civilizations, our 5th grade students got a hands-on experience with Mayan culture thanks to Mrs. Buchanan!
They learned how cacao beans grow, how they’re harvested, and how they’re made into chocolate. Students tasted whole roasted beans, ground them with a grinding stone to make a paste, and even enjoyed a Mayan-style chocolate drink. To finish, they sampled delicious chocolates from the region!

We want to inform you that Norwich Schools will be conducting an active shooter drill on Wednesday, October 1 to ensure the safety and preparedness of our students and staff. This drill is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure learning environment and complies with state and district safety protocols.
Our local law enforcement and EMS will be assisting with the drill. This is only a drill and there is no cause for concern. The presence of first responders is simply part of the practice.
The drill will be conducted in an age-appropriate manner, and we will take all necessary steps to ensure it is handled sensitively. Staff members have been trained to guide students through the process calmly and effectively.
We appreciate your support in helping us prioritize the safety of our school community.
